SUMMARY:Great Links Tor - flyer - Dartmoor Fell Series - MOVED to 27th Sept sat am
DESCRIPTION:SwFellrunners says.. \nAnother course that does not disappoint. this year moved to a Saturday Am . Fast course with some fabulous descents and of course a couple of nice hills.. Again at the  Fox and Hounds at Bridestowe – we normally are permitted to top half of the camping field for parking and finish. \nJunior races kick off normally at 10am starting from moor gate. Adults will start at 10:45. \nThe route \nThis route has a one of the most challenging ascents. The routs start up Gt Nodden \, turning around both summit cairns\, you immediately drop to the valley via a ford near a blowing house. form here a straight line to Little Links tor across very undulating ground there is a trod if you can find it. This is a very sustained incline and gets steeper one you  head to Great links. Well that most of the ascent done. you now have a lovely fast track down to Arms tor and then some contouring across to Widgery ( brat tor) before a very steep ( flying descent) back to stepping stones by the river- do not cross. follow the stream back up about 400yrs to cross ford and track where you started and about 400m of track down to finish in camping field. \nPrizes in seated area next to the pub/ or skittle alley- normally a really great post race atmosphere. \nSee Race website for entry details and pricing as soon at it is live link will appear. \nLast ford crossing\nFlyer route map

SUMMARY:Ivybridge 3 tops - Dartmoor Fell series
DESCRIPTION:SwFellrunners says… \nA brilliant resurrection of an old classic by Erme Valley harriers over last 3 years. Will  contain some challenging junior races routes. This will be an Wednesday evening format race. Race approx 10k and 450m of climb\, you will have stunning views over the South Hams. Last year was hot and great course with a little tarmac to get to finish at the end- so you can stretch out! \nThe route is now confirmed and agreed with the main landowners and DNPA. Parking at park and ride\, short walk to Race HQ and registration at the rugby club\, then a little warm up walk (1km) to the start on edge of moor Gr 654569 . Junior races start and finish here. Seniors races starts here but finish back at rugby club.\n \nFab senior route with a brisk start up Western Beacon then crossing open moor to loop down\, around and up to Weatherdon\, some quick track followed by a scramble over tussocks to take you to Glasscombe Ball then fast down to the stream crossing at Scada Brook\, (what goes down must come up) and a sharp rise up to Ugborough Beacon then a second stream crossing at Lud Brook\, and across to Western for a very fast descent to the finish. There are clear tracks and trods in places but sound route finding will help with off-piste sections.\n \nRoute above note walk to start after registration… is also site of start and finish of junior age groups.

SUMMARY:Cosdon - Dartmoor Fell Series
DESCRIPTION:Just the last hill to go\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBelstone green finish\n\n\n\n\n\nSWFellrunners say\,\,\, \n\n\n\nAnother fantastic short route hosted by Okehampton Running Club only 3.1 miles but 300m of ascent. Set in the picture postcard village of Belstone this is normally an afternoon event alongside the village fete. Parking available at cricket club just a short walk to Race HQ at the Tors Inn. Junior races take place before seniors and its normally £1 to enter on the day. \n\n\n\nThe route is unmarked but marshalled in a couple of spots. A very fast steep downhill start to narrow footbridge and then a sharp steep run up a path through gorse and soon onto the open moor. There is a trod to follow until you reach the edge of marsh basin. Do you skirt around or do you plough on through? ‘Tis is up to you’. Tough long grass\, hummocks and heather will impede your desire to run all the way to the top\, helped by the occasion sheep trod\, keep going up until you reach the summit cairns. \n\n\n\nThe very fast descent is hair raising-ly lumpy and if you can find a trod down even better. Soon you will be quickly back onto the gorse flanked path – choose between refreshing ford or the narrow footbridge. then a wicked little 150ft rise to the village green normally sorts a few placings. \n\n\n\nGreat atmosphere at the finish and a chance to grab some village tea and cakes! What’s not to like? \n\n\n\nCourse Records – (M) Tim Lenton 28min 53 sec (F) Jo Meek 33min 55sec \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLatest Info from the Race organiser- Entries are not yet

SUMMARY:the classic Burrator Horseshoe the 27th edition
DESCRIPTION:Here it is again. The classic runners and family day out. Meavy Oak fair combined with junior races and the senior classic Burrator Horseshoe. The route for the main course is well known. Start in village and after the sprint to the filed about 600yds you quickly work you way through woods to reach the Dam. a very short road section takes you across and back onto trail following the reservoir but not for long\, short lane up and then on the track to Sheepstor proper. \n\n\n\nThis has a couple of nice false summits until you see the imposing granite blocks and yes straight up is the advised way. \n\n\n\nCatch your breath and enjoy the view\, if your lucky\, as a fast smooth grass descent takes you to a turn that heads east towards Gutter tor Scout hut woods ( i reckon this is where you really have to concentrate)\, sorry no cutting corners here as we are missing the big bog to save some creatures. \n\n\n\nThrough the car park and up to Gutter tor\, across the stile and you have a pleasant ridge run takes you across to Ringmoor cottage\, another stile and straight down the earthquake descent. to reach a small lane that takes you to Ford – yes its customary to run straight through and you are about 500 yrs form the finish. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nBurrator route map below

SUMMARY:Summer Solstice - Dartmoor Fell Series
DESCRIPTION:Happy runners!\n\n\n\nAmazing Merrivale start\n\n\n\nColin says… \n\n\n\nWe’re delighted to be organising the Summer Solstice Fell Run once again\, which will start at 7pm (or 6pm for juniors) on Wednesday 18 June 2025. \n\n\n\nThe senior (18+) race is 9.5k. \n\n\n\nParticipants are expected to be competent at navigating in all potential Dartmoor weather conditions. \n\n\n\nEntry will be online once site open \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIf there are places left\, you can register on the day at registration. On the day entries will be charged £10 cash. \n\n\n\nNumbers are limited to 200. Online entry closes 17 June 2025. Entries are not transferrable. There will be a wide range of age group categories in 10 year increments. \n\n\n\nThe route will be marked in places in order to avoid ground nesting birds and the firing range. We reserve the right to abandon or shorten the course on the day in the event of bad weather. Please wear adequate clothing. Prize giving for the senior event will be at 8:30pm. \n\n\n\nToilet facilities\, refreshment and car parking will be available. Please bring your own water bottle. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSWFellrunners says… \n\n\n\nA fab race now organised by Colin Kirk potter but origins from Andy Houghton .Offering just under 6 miles of fabulous hills on the evening of the Solstice. Set in the magnificent Merrivale valley. We normally host 3 races here but this year we are using other locations to spread across Dartmoor. \n\n\n\nParking is normally in one of local farmers field for a small donation to charity. Easy to find as its right next to Dartmoor Inn ( at Merrivale as there are several https://eversfieldorganic.co.uk/pages/eat-dartmoor-inn-merrivale) .All races start a little walk up from the car park on the edge of the quarry. Normally juniors around 6;00 for U9/U11 combined and U13/U15 combined ( entry on day). Seniors start normally 7:00pm. \n\n\n\nRoute is very testing in the first mile with a very steep rise to Middle staple tor before the welcome turn right and the ease of gradient onto the ridge to Higher staple and roos tor. It follows a gently undulating path across the ridge until a sharp marshalled turn left towards a distance stone wall corner / ford and the persistent slope of White tor. \n\n\n\nThe descent from this is very very fast all the way down to a stream ford – take care though as front competitors have got carried away with racing and missed the route here! Across a field then the long gradual but breathlessly runnable ascent back up out of the valley to regain middle staple. Just a simple matter of a steep 1k descent to the finish. \n\n\n\nNormally a great atmosphere with trestle tables and pub refreshments. \n\n\n\nLatest Info form the Race Organiser – entries are open! – Please refer to organiser website for details \n\n\n\nSolstice Route Map

SUMMARY:Langstone Fell Race - Dartmoor Fell Series
DESCRIPTION:SwFellrunners says..\nWas Fab last year and great village finish – now open for entries! \nLangstone Fell Race\, starting from Peter Tavy\, this had a great revival in last 3 years . It is the third  event in the Dartmoor Fell Series. The course  record a cracking time  of 43 min 56sec! \n \nThe event is based around Peter Tavy Village Hall and parking will be available in farmers’ fields. \nThere is some brilliant terrain on the course. From the village hall the course follows a winding lane for a few hundred yards which rises steeply and narrows to a gap. It goes across a narrow bridge then up to a moor section to Gt Combe Tor\, through a few gates (please take care to take the best path and close gates) and then you are on open moor ‘proper’. The course takes a slight left then follows a direct path. Keep the rocks to your right as you ascend Cox Tor. There will be a marshal at the summit trig point. From here there will be some very fast running as you drop north into a valley and then out again to follow a track up a long ascent to the next ridge\, Go through a stony ford and head slightly right but keep to good ground following a NE direction to Langstone Standing Stone. \nLast tor before fast descent to finish \nNow there is a very fast descent for 4k passing Boulters Tor on the way! It’s a hard track to start with and then open grass before a steep ridge track brings you back to finish across feilds by the village hall. You cannot miss it as you will be looking down at it! \nJust under 10k with 387m of ascent will test a few. Enjoy! \nJunior races will take place approximately 30 mins before the senior race – please come and watch and support the future of the sport.

SUMMARY:Marilyn's Meldon Madness
DESCRIPTION:Formerly The Great West Fell Run\, the race has been renamed in memory of Marilyn Cooper. Race Headquarters is at Meldon dam pay & display car park (nr Okehampton grid ref: SX 561 917). The start and finish is a short walk to the other side of the dam. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSenior Race\n\n\n\nThis race will take you to the highest point in the south of England. The 1\,362ft ascent is tough enough to challenge any off-road runner but\, at just five miles\, it offers a rare opportunity for anyone to try their first fell race. The route is beautiful with stunning views over the county from Yes Tor and High Willhays (the highest point) before a welcome descent to Black Tor and down Homerton Hill to the finish at Meldon reservoir. \n\n\n\nThere are a number of compulsory checkpoints at which all runners MUST give their number to the stewards. Due to difficulty of marking the course accurately\, self-navigation is required by all runners. \n\n\n\nThe race is licensed by the Fell Runners Association. Whilst there is no mandatory kit requirement if the weather is looking bad then a whistle\, raincoat and hat is advisable. The race is self navigating so you may also want to carry a map and compass if not familiar with the course. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nJunior Race\n\n\n\nPlease print and complete the entry form linked below. SUMMARY:Burrator Horseshoe 24
DESCRIPTION:Sheepstor summit\n\n\n\nBack again for its 25th year! So we are going back to the original start by village green. but still incorporating junior races at 2:30 ( start in field finish on green) and senior race ay 3:15pm. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nwebsite not live until April \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSwfellrunners says… \n\n\n\nThis seems to be a hot favourite for regional runners \, especially popular now with great junior courses and a village ‘Oak fair’ which runs all afternoon based around the scenic Meavy village green. Of course we are biased because we host it and contribute a good amount to village. \n\n\n\nThe run \n\n\n\nThe Burrator Horseshoe is a 6-mile moorland run from Meavy out over Dartmoor\, via Burrator Reservoir\, Sheepstor Dam\, Sheepstor summit (369m)\, Gutter Tor summit (357m)\, Ringmoor Down and the cooling Meavy river ford – the route map is below. It has a spectacular finish with a nice ford dip and an awesome reception on the village green outside the welcoming Royal Oak \n\n\n\nInn http://www.royaloakinn.org.uk/ . \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA few key route bits \n\n\n\nSeniors back to village start and finish; Plus continue with detour at ‘scout hut’. \n\n\n\nJuniors will start in field and finish on green.

SUMMARY:Postbridge Pootle - Dartmoor Fell Series
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \nSwFellrunners says… \nA new race last year – which got whoops of enjoyment. An evening format again for this year based at Postbridge. Race organiser and Run Venture founder Colin Kirk Potter. Plenty of parking in DNP car park ( get a ticket) or across in woods . there will be juniors format to be confirmed but expect 6:00pm start for U9/u11 and U13/U15. \n\n\n\nFor seniors (7pm start) a route that takes you to less visited places with stunning views\, remember kit may be required across this 10k course with 270m of climb. There will be marshals in a few spots to make sure course and road crossing safe – otherwise the course will be unmarked. \n\n\n\nThe route is reverse of what we previously explained – apologies – correct route below –  \n\n\n\nExpected route will start next to DNP car park\, taking level forest track then quickly into broken ground to Braddon lake then a sharp but runnable incline to Braddon tor ( very pock marked by cattle- good place to lose a shoes if wet) ! Then a nice circuit with a few small valleys for lower white tor\, higher white tor and Longaford tor. It will feel like you are a long way from the start put a  footpath/ trod is then followed behind the historic powder mills farm obvious heading for the large chimney – this takes back to the main road crossing to take you into Bellever woods and a straight forest track to the finish. \n\n\n\nThere is a really great ‘green’ next to the clapper bridge- great for a post race dip and a pub to celebrate your success. Just watch out for the midges… there are one or two! \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nCapture 4 tors on this route\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n  \n  \n  \nSwFellrunners says… \nA new race last year – which got whoops of enjoyment. SUMMARY:Meldon Skyline - Series Race and Devon AA Champs -
DESCRIPTION:SwFellrunners says..\nRace is now open for entries \nYes this is early but we are hoping for some great qualification results for Devon AA team\, and  the biggest hill climb in the series. Is a first time for the course but from the recce runs its got a bit of everything\, including the highest tops on Dartmoor\, a couple of nice descents but of course a couple of nice climbs to earn them. Devon AA team did outstanding last year so we hope this distance will be close to National course and height gain. We hope to have North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team supporting the event. Enjoy! \nRoute \nPlease use lower sections of car park registration will be at the bottom. Seniors Route is Meldon dam start\, to yes tor ( marshal) to Fordinsland ledge ( checkpoint) to Homerton Hill ( checkpoint) and advisory crossing over weir\, then up to Sourton tor ( checkpoint) and track back via gate to Meldon car park. See ‘Inside line’ below if you want more details \nJuniors will start early at 8:40 to finish by 9am . seniors will start at 9:15am. Note there will be a U9/U11/U13 race. U15 and U17 will start with adults – but do a seperate course \nRace website is now  open – u9/u11/u13 juniors will run before seniors . This is rated as a A class medium course and basic kit ( hat\, gloves\, waterproofs\, map\, compass\,  whistle) will need to be taken- please come with kit – no kit no run. \nthe ‘inside line’ . . .\nSo have been asked what’s the ‘nav’ like and can i take a direct line here?  So here is my view of how i would run it… but it is a fell race so your own choice. ( PS no substitute to a good look at the map and take a compass). First i would warm up or the first hill will hit you like a punch in the guts. From start as soon as fence ends come off main track and take trod\, and then cut across to to track higher up. Now i would contour around to left\, but some racing snakes might choose to go straight up over ( not sure its any quicker). \nFollowing track until levels out (‘ish)  there is a logical place to cut left and head up to Yes \, it looks a long way but you will get there. The ‘mountain hares’ might want a direct line over boulders but most might stay a bit right and cut left near top. In poor vis i would use a compass as mostly straight line. You now are on top of Devon! Hopefully met by a beaming team of NDSART.  Head south and skip past High Willhay’s on worn track \, you can follow this around all the way to Fordinsland ledge. Oh another NDSART team should be here. Of course you can cut corner but ground is hard work. \nFrom here your heading down a mucky peaty track towards Black tor- keep it to your left\, you are headed out onto Homerton hill ridge\, i actually kept close to two very big boulders on valley edge ( i was about 50yds to right of them ) to eventually follow a sheep trod which takes a line to the right. Take care there is some tufty terrain here for 200yds. You will eventually come out on broad open ridge with grassy patches and a nice Red pup tent with a Marshal. In think mist something like 320 mag gets you there but harder in a straight line. \nNow take a rough 260 Mag line towards valley will get you to a nice decent path down to the weir \, should be a nice marshal wishing you on here. Cross and then the steepest part of the course! I would make up the ridge on path which eases off fairly quickly \, now West up a nice open bowl valley takes you up to Sourton tor- nearest big block will have another Marshal. Then a fast super decent back down the ridge in NE direction to make gate at footpath signpost. Again 2 more marshals here and more fast decent – please stick to path – there may be livestock about. as soon as you cross end gate turn left into finish funnel – you’ve done it! \nI hope that helps – enjoy – but do check out your map and choose your own line. \nOh watch out for a bit of gamesmanship some runners if they think they are being tailgated- might take a harder line? !

It is only 2.6 miles but has a 1000ft of climb in first 1.2 miles. The route follows a wide track which is fast and level to start but quickly gets steep as it breaks out onto open moor. a sharp rise leads to a left turn into bracken to follow a stream which is crossed to a very steep slope which keeps going for about 200ft you are now on the long convex approach to the top of the tor\,  keep going until you get to the marshal . Then a sharp right turn takes you to a little dip and a nice trod right before a very steep descent back to the gate you cam out on the moor. Super fast track back to the pub. \nCourse records – Male: T. Perry 18:47 (2021) Female: J. Meek :21:52 (2021) \nLatest info form Race organiser – entries open – limited to 50! \nhttps://www.entrycentral.com/SourtonTors Wednesday September 7th – 18:00 Junior start 19:00 Senior start\n\nThe Race\nA traditional fell run of approx 2.6 miles ascending 300m to Sourton Tors and looping back round the valley. There is a compulsory checkpoint near the trig point at Sourton Tors and a further marshal will be positioned before the descent. \nThe route is entirely off-road with most on the open moorland of Dartmoor. Whilst providing a challenge is within the capabilities of most runners. After the race enjoy a drink and a meal in the Bearslake Inn (you may want to book). \nRegistration\nRace Headquarters is at the Bearslake Inn car park at Lake\, on the A386 between Sourton (near Okehampton) & Tavistock. The start & finish is next to Race HQ. Parking will likely be available in the farmers field next door to the pub – we will have a marshal telling you where to park. Prizes for the first male and female and age categories will be awarded. There are no mementoes – reflected in the low entry fee. \nHeld under the rules of the Fell Runners Association\, race classification AS. \nIn keeping with the traditions and skills required of British fell racing\, self-navigation is required by all runners – there are NO course markers. Getting a little lost is part of every fell runner’s journey\, so don’t worry! Go and check out the route before race day if you can – the route will be on the ORC website . \nThe race is licensed by the Fell Runners Association. Whilst there is no mandatory kit requirement if the weather is looking bad then a whistle\, raincoat and hat is advisable. The race is self navigating so you may also want to carry a map and compass if not familiar with the course. \nJuniors can race too. Minimum age of 8. Juniors over 13 can race in the senior race at 7pm as the FRA permits those over 13 to race this distance. All ages under 13 will race at 6pm – distances of either 2km (under 11) or 3km (under 13). Entry on the day at £1 for all juniors – even if they are running in the senior event.

SUMMARY:Meldon Fell Race - Dartmoor Fell Series
DESCRIPTION:Ready for the off\nAdam Tango Holland – 2021s winner\n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nMarliyn’s Meldon Madness is a brilliant race organised by Okehampton Running Club and is the first race of the series. A great short course taking in Dartmoor’s two highest peaks. Access is good with reasonable parking and toilet block. Junior races for U9/U11\, U13 and U15 other age groups run with the seniors. It is normally a mid-afternoon start\, the course starts steep on track and soon enters broken ground where you need to find the best way to the top of Yes Tor. It is quite a lumpy descent from High Willhays which can be moist in places. The track from below Black Tor is very fast and you will be back in no time! Note for veteran age groups – this event sets your age group for the whole series (to avoid swapping groups).  \nEntries\nthis is latest info from organiser- Marilyn Meldon Madness in memory of Marilyn Cooper- entries are open https://www.entrycentral.com/MarilynMeldonMadnes – Saturday May 14th – 13:00 Junior 14:00 Senior. \n\nThe race\nThis race will take you to the highest point in the south of England. \nThere are a number of compulsory checkpoints at which all runners MUST give their number to the stewards. Due to difficulty of marking the course accurately\, self-navigation is required by all runners. \nThe race is licensed by the Fell Runners Association. Whilst there is no mandatory kit requirement if the weather is looking bad then a whistle\, raincoat and hat is advisable. The race is self navigating so you may also want to carry a map and compass if not familiar with the course. \nRegistration\nRace Headquarters is at Meldon dam pay and display car park (nr Okehampton grid ref: SX 561 917). The start and finish is a short walk to the other side of the dam.  \nJunior races too – entry on the day at £1 \nThe event is supported by North Dartmoor Search and Rescue who will be present to assist injured runners if required. Please consider donating to their vital work. \nFor confirmed details\, timing\, entry and price go to race organiser’s website
